While I can’t even begin to deal with the fact that stores are carrying Halloween (and even some CHRISTMAS) merchandise in July, I am excited for fall. By far my favorite season for numerous reasons- sweaters, hot coffee, fires, cool air, Henry’s FIRST BIRTHDAY (what?!?!)- I still respect summer and hate to rush it. BUT, with fall clothing making its way onto the racks, it’s a good time to buy things that can not only be worn in the fall, but now as well! Getting two seasons out of clothing is fabulous financially, and here are some examples of how to do it:
Lingerie inspired tops and dresses will be hot for fall, but are also perfect for hot weather NOW. Wear alone with bohemian accessories in the heat, and then layer with cozy sweaters and boots come October!
Now: shorts // earrings // necklace // sandals
Later: jeans // boots // sweater // necklace
The sleeveless turtleneck sweater can be a perplexing piece- but it’s great for chillier summer evenings and then acts as a fabulous layering piece in the cold!
Now: jeans (only $64!)// espadrilles // bracelet // earrings
Later: jeans // bodysuit (fall staple for layering)// vest // flats
The simple black tank dress is a no brainer purchase for summer, but it also works fantastic in the fall with a belted sweater cape and little booties!
Then: sweater wrap // booties // earrings // belt
I’m kind of dying over this embroidered top- so fun paired with white jeans now- but also perfect to wear with black skinny pants and a leather jacket for a night out int he fall (and make sure to add a pop of color with the shoes!)
Now: jeans // sandals (designer look for $69)// clutch // earrings (have-LOVE)
Later: pants // faux leather jacket // heels (so comfy) // earrings
Love this post Erin! Just a thought/suggestion for a future post. I would love for you to post about outfits for family photos. Recommendations online are so blah and not at all stylish. But it’s tricky to look fashionable but not over done for then. Thanks!
I’m almost 5 months pregnant and so as much as I love your fashion Friday posts, they are also a bit of self torture! I did get that shearling vest though! I think it would be perfect for a growing fall baby bump! Thanks! :)
I love this post and would also love a post on sneakers. I can’t figure out which slip on ones to buy for fall. I am a 40 year old mom of two so don’t want to look like I’m trying to be too trendy, thanks Erin!
Love them all. Thanks for sharing!!!
Erin – Love this post. Thanks. Any chance you can do a post on cute sneakers? Traveling to Europe always makes us Americans realize we wear the ugliest, clunkiest sneakers compared to their sleek footwear, and we could use help in finding more fashionable Saturday wear. Please help us find similar shoes here!
Bring it on!!! franki
Great post! You totally nailed every outfit (well maybe I can’t see myself in a body suit again) . But every outfit is stunning.
What are your thoughts on ruching after being pregnant. I can’t wear it…feel like I am wearing maternity :/. Still on the quest for the perfect black sleeveless cotton /hug your body in all the right places dress that can be dressed down or up . If you find one ….please post!
What a great post idea, Erin! Very fresh and I love all the combinations, my favorite being the tank midi! I have a serious crush on these lately, I blame Kim & Kanye :)
These are so so good! These are all perfectly balanced!
You are so so good at these! Perfect balance in every outfit!
Just curious- does anyone else have fit issues with J. Crew items (since one is recommended here)? Like sleeves that are too long, hems that are too short, inconsistent sizing (sometimes I wear a small, sometimes I need a size 10), etc.? This query isn’t a dig on J. Crew, just wondering if I’m the only one!
i used to LOVE the crew, fwiw, but find that their fits and fabric quality have really deteriorated in the past few years. i also think they have struggled to size tops since the advent of this whole boxy body look. definitely not just you. in my post baby body i can fit into smalls through large tops (weird). i’ve never been able to wear their blazers or dresses tho bc i’m 5’10” and they’re alllllways too short.
awesome ideas, i can’t wait for fall either – especially here in Boston!
i found this amazing art organization today and immediately thought that it would make for a great EOS blog post _ https://www.artlifting.com/?view=browse-collections – what a great way to make a difference while empowering both the art and homeless communities.
Thank you so much for sharing- I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this! A blog post for sure! xoxo
I discovered some of their work at Grange in the BDC a year or so ago–SO inspiring–the Today Show did a piece on them back in the fall too–such a great organization and cause!
