An Adorable Bedroom + Awesome (Affordable) Wallpapers
Sorry this is so late you guys- between my renovation, Henry, work and LIFE I’ve been running behind on everything for the past few days. Which I hate. But at least I’m showing up, right? :)
So I saw this picture on Susanna Salk’s instagram last week (btw her new book about dogs and their designers looks so awesome)- and I just fell in love. It’s an old image from Elle Decor’s 2010 Showhouse and this space is by Suzanne Tucker….and it’s so damn charming. Granny-chic is making a fast and furious comeback in a BIG way these days (more on that another day) and this room is a great mix of that and some more modern colors. I’d love this kind of scheme for a tween/teen girls room. The beds are killer (probably vintage) but I found some nice alternates below.

In looking for wallpaper for this post, I came across SO many good designs on Spoonflower (which I had kind of written off as a cutesy place to get more juvenile looking designs). WRONG. There are some seriously sophisticated and yet funky designs (and they can almost all be printed on fabric too if you prefer). A lot of these are Peacoquette Designs. What a find!

Erin, do you have an opinion on removeable wallpaper? My husband is really opposed to using wallpaper so I was hoping that might be a good option. Not sure if you have to pay a pro to put it up though? Have you ever tried it? Appreciate any input and thanks for the great blog!
My husband and I put up an ikat wallpaper from Spoonflower in our last house and it was surprisingly easy to work with – although we were just doing one wall behind some shelves. I will say that “removable” paper from Spoonflower is not peel and stick, like some products geared to renters. There is adhesive on the paper and you soak the lengths of paper in water to activate it and then hang as usual. It’s not going anywhere without some serious work, but you will not have to steam and scrape to get it off the wall. When it’s up, it feels just like regular wallpaper and the price was much less than similar options I looked at.
I’m sure Erin has better insight, but since we have worked with this product, I wanted to chime in and let you know!
A lot of the wallpapers are clear knockoffs. Not sure I can get behind such a source. Example – Compare Caitlin Wilson’s original designs with many of those featured – a strikingly disturbing resemblance.
Haters are everywhere. I love the wallpapers. If these are similar to something else then I wouldn’t call them knockoffs but reinterpretations. I see nothing wrong with that. Those are usually in my price range. Not everyone can afford the original and you can’t please everyone. I appreciate you taking the time to create this post. I always look forward to your posts.
Yes to peacoquette designs and a few other spoonflower designers who kill it! There is SO much on there, but like etsy you can find gems! Also, apparently I just love granny chic because this bedroom (and your picks) are fab. Thx for keeping up this inspo. You are a dynamo.
I wish I had more pictures of my grandmother’s house – it was a little ranch with small rooms and absolutely no architectural pizzazz but she knew how to add wallpaper and draperies to make it so special! It was chinoiserie chic -all blue and white with a few rooms with really funky colors . When I was little I, of course, didn’t realize how stylish she was but now, man, I wish I could design my house with her and pick her brain about so many things. <3
