Fashion Friday: Denim Try On With Saks

I wear jeans almost 100% of my days so I have a lot of pairs. When I find a style that works, I’ll buy multiple washes. But styles change, and my BEVY of tight skinny jeans is making me look a smidge dated (you will have to pry my favorite pairs from my cold, dead hands though – as a Gen Xer, I refuse to give them up completely), so I ordered a few new cuts from Saks, who has a great selection, and tried them on for you. While I cannot get on board with super baggy jeans – I just feel silly in them – I am trying some looser fitting cuts. Here are my faves (for reference I am 5′ 9″ tall and typically a size 25 in denim and wearing this bodysuit with all pairs):

SKINNY

I have four pairs of AG Mari jeans, which I like because the ankle isn’t tight but the rest is fitted. These are a stretch denim in a mid-rise. Awesome basic. Runs TTS or slightly large – in a 24.

BOOTCUT

I do love Veronica Beard’s denim – these are the Cameron Bootcut with raw hem. The length is good for flats or a low heel and the flare is subtle. These are a very comfy stretch denim as well and a mid rise on me (I have a long torso so maybe a high rise if you have a shorter torso). I also have this pair and love the cut as well. Super flattering. TTS/ in a 25.

STRAIGHT

These are Moussy Vintage which is a new brand to me, but I LOVE the slightly relaxed, deconstructed vibe of these. They are stiff and have NO stretch but I still find them comfy and I think they will break in over time. Expensive, yes, but already a pair I reach for often now. I’m really liking a lot of straight cuts as a halfway between baggy and skinny that I think is pretty age appropriate for me. Runs TTS but stiff so if you like things looser size up, I’m in a 25.

WIDE-ISH LEG // FRONT POCKETS

These are Nili Lotan and I love them (someone at the doctor’s office said I was giving Victoria Beckham vibes in them so I was happy). They are SO soft and long, so I wear these with heeled boots. Also very expensive, but I am happy to invest in denim as I wear it so much. Size up in these, in a 26.

TROUSER/ FLARE

This Nili Lotan pair fit amazing but SUPER SMALL in the hips, so size up 1-2 sizes (I wish i had done 2x as these are 26 and still so tight- I now call them my “Standing Jeans”). Perfect, classic cut that is NOT tight at the knee which I find so much more flattering in a flare style jean.

WIDE LEG

These are not super wide leg by any means, but wider than most I have (you can see better in the video on my IG than this pic). A good “breaking into wider legs denim” cut from Mother, another brand I love (I have two pairs of this skinny cut from them, which I love too). TTS, in a 25.

I have a video of each pair on my IG today. What are your favorite denim brands and cuts right now? Are skinny jeans still in your wardrobe or have you gone over to the straight/ wide leg/ baggy category?
