Timeless Cabinetry Colors

I think one of the hardest decisions people have making is paint colors- even more specifically, cabinetry and millwork paint colors. It’s a big commitment and not as easy to change as a wall color. I hemmed and hawed (and painted roughly 60 samples) over choosing a pale neutral for my mini-makeover (above) and while it reads light on camera, it’s a fantastic pale greige in person. So I thought it would be helpful to share a cheat sheet of some of our favorite cabinetry paint colors- hardly ALL of our favorites- but a good range of tones and colors to get you started sampling! We painted our library BM Van Deusen Blue in high gloss and love it!

These are great colors, and your kitchen looks fantastic! I’m curious what formulation of paint you use for cabinets, for example oil v. latex and satin v. gloss.

BM White Dove forever! I painted my trim/walls this incredible color + my cabinets are sprayed BM Wrought Iron. I really enjoy the contrast. The cabinets are an off-black shade which reads super dark navy at times. Both colors make me happy every time I walk into the public/interconnected spaces of my home.
White Dove in my kitchen and I definitely don’t regret it… thinking of French gray (Farrow and Ball) for my cubbies (northern light) which will soon be turned into built-in shelves.Love your living room w/ trim and al the thought that went into it due to lighting….my dining room has a nice amount of southern light so may go with Blue Gray (Farrow and Ball) I could see from your post that this color didn’t work w/ the exposure in your living room (which I adore:)but I understand all the work in choosing the perfect color for your lighting ~ which you achieved!
I have great experience with clients doing Dorian Gray SW as a mid tone, and Greek Villa SW is nice white. Also, Poolhouse SW is fun for a laundry room!
I used SW Dorian Gray on my kitchen cabinets with gray and white marble quartz. It’s one of those color-shifting grays. Love it and get so many compliments.
I painted the first floor of my last house all BM – Edgecomb Gray and had my kitchen cabinets painted Sherwin Williams Greek Villa with w grey/white marble herringbone backsplash and grey quartz that had the look of Soapstone (which was sadly out of my budget). My faucet and hardware were all black and I installed new floors in a light Hickory. I sold the house back in October but I still dream about my kitchen 😂

Love this! What colors would you recommend for cabinetry that would play well with orangey oak trim (that’s likely not being changed)?
I’m thinking of going for a warm white as my house came all in light gray…should I also paint the trim and millwork the same?
So beautiful! When you do cabinets with a neutral color (like you did above), can you still do creamy trim in the same room?
