Our Custom Bar Cart Design

A few weeks ago we had the wonderful opportunity to participate again in Heading Home to Dinner, a local event that supports the non-profit Heading Home, which helps homeless and low income families find emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing with the end goal of self-sufficiency. This event asks local designers to design elaborate tablescapes and bar carts for a dinner party that raises money for this cause via ticket sales and auctioning off the bar carts. I did a table last year, and so this year I decided to do a bar cart to mix it up.

My concept was to create a little cart that pulled design aspects from some of my favorite kitchens– limed oak cabinetry, reeded drawer fronts, antique brass hardware, wire mesh panels and honed marble. I wanted it to be flexible so the auction winner could use it for a variety of things if needed- an entry console, small dining room buffet, etc. We worked with Masterpiece Woodworks, who built this based off our design and it came out AMAZING! I tried to bid on it myself, but lost (however, very glad it went for much higher than I could spend!)

I chose some other favorite elements of design to round out my vignette– a backdrop of this awesome Mark Sikes for Schumacher wallpaper, an original Kayce Hughes painting, a favorite Circa buffet lamp with a custom shade made by Cruel Mountain with Schumacher fabric, Simon Pearce glassware and decanter, Williams Sonoma Home frames and a little bowl from my collection with Jill Rosenwald.

And how insanely gorgeous is this Calacatta marble from United Marble??? In my next house, THIS IS IT for the kitchen counters, y’all. IN LOVE.

This was our concept proposal for the cart, and it came together pretty darn close to what we pictured (we couldn’t use a mirror because the backdrop would not support it and we did a smaller scale shade fabric than shown here too)!

We included a little drink recipe that we thought “went” with our bar cart too, in case you are in need of a Thanksgiving cocktail recipe for guests!

A huge thank you to all our vendors that participated with us in this event. :) I can price this out for anyone who may be interested in having one made for themselves too– but just a warning, it’s expensive. LOL. :)
