I may have a child and a good job, but I’m still not a real grown-up who hosts Thanksgiving dinner at my own house yet. My mom still rocks that for us, and until we have a place big enough to hold lots of family it will probably stay that way. But that doesn’t mean I don’t dream about having the time and ability to pull together a gorgeous Thanksgiving tablescape! For now it will need to remain virtual on the pages of this blog- so I had some fun doing a few for you. Starting with one inspired by the gorgeous, fun picture above!
This is a fun, casual meets formal mix with bold color and hints of gold (and even some leopard!)

This one is a modern take on a country theme- and even a turkey-feather charger somehow looks gorgeous and cool as opposed to kitschy!

Blue and white can work for even the fall and winter holidays- this is a casual grouping complete with raw pottery, wood and pewter tones. You can adds hints of red or orange through flowers for a bolder look.

This is a formal setting, based on the china pattern I wish I had registered for (Bernadaud’s Constance). The chartreuse and gold scheme with a couple modern touches makes it less stuffy.

In case anyone is wondering, I’m fairly certain that the original picture comes from the blogger at dimplesandtangles.com. I always want to know where the images that I love come from and this one I happened to recognize. :)
I am always looking for inspiration for a table setting! That buffalo check for a tablecloth is genius! Would so work for Christmas too. I’m definitely doing that.
If you can’t find one in the stores, buy a length of fabric from the fabric store. I don’t even hem it, I leave the edges raw. Cheap and easy.
I have a post request. I have used a designer in the past for little projects here and there, but for the first time I am hiring one for a full scale overhaul of half of our house. I would love a post on how to most effectively work with a designer, how best to communicate what you do and don’t like, any tips at all would be really appreciated! Educate me from the designer’s perspective!
Great idea. I would appreciate that too!
Me, too! I love doing some design on my own but I think that doesn’t work that well with the two designers I have had. Also felt intimidated to tell them what ideas of theirs I did not like. I would love to hear Erin’s perspective!
I like that! Would love to read that!
Blue and white all day everyday! I love that one- but I also love the first one!

Can I ask a seasonal décor related question please?! In the UK we (sadly) don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but having decorated marginally for fall this year, I was wondering when the fall décor in the US gives way to the Christmas? Is Thanksgiving usually the marker or is it just down to personal preference?
Our first blast of Christmas music happens when we are cleaning up the dishes from Thanksgiving dinner. We put on Brian Setzer’s Christmas CD, and sing at the top of our lungs while cleaning the kitchen up. We love that tradition!
It is most definitely a personal preference… I usually put our tree up the weekend before Thanksgiving (partially decorated, not over the top Christmas), so that we have it up when people come to visit for Thanksgiving. I love having the tree lit as a backdrop for our dinner… That said, I don’t finish the tree or bust out all of the other very merry goodies until after Thanksgiving (snowmen, mistletoe, candy canes, etc). Hope that helps!
Thank you all for the insight! Decorating for fall has become more of a ‘thing’ in the UK. I was just interested in how to handle the decorating ‘gap’ for us without Thanksgiving in between. Thank you for your input!
We usually do our Christmas decorating the first week of December but we’ve started doing it the day after Thanksgiving. I also don’t like seeing Christmas stuff out before Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time, people!
We usually pull our Christmas decor out on thanksgiving day or the day after. My kids love to decorate as well and look forward to it all year. We like to enjoy the decor for as long as possible.
For my family, it was historically early December. Now my in-laws bring us a Christmas tree on Thanksgiving weekend (they own a nursery), so we start decorating later Thanksgiving weekend. Personally, I don’t like seeing Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving.
