A bunch of you have asked me on Instagram where I got my new ottoman, which replaced our glass coffee table a.k.a. “The Baby Guillotine”. I looked high and low for a zebra cowhide ottoman in the size I needed for my long, narrow living room and struck out. And the designer grade custom items I was pricing out were a fortune. So I turned to Etsy (as I do quite a lot when looking for custom goods that don’t break the bank). I had one made for me by the shop 1801FurnitureCo. and it came out perfect!
(Oliver would NOT move for this picture- his eyes are saying “go ahead lady, try to get me off this sofa”)
I chose cowhide for the natural toughness and durability and also water-repellent qualities. Sippy cups have leaks water all over this baby a dozen times and it’s fine! My style is listed here.
You can work with them to create a piece all your own- in a variety of hides (like this brindle below), wood finishes and styles any size you need.
In another area of the living room is the upholstered bench/ toybox I had made by one of my other favorite Etsy vendors, LivenUP Design. I sent them the fabric of my choice and they created this custom sized piece perfect for storing Henry’s toys and providing extra seating.
He’s obsessed with trying to get in it.
We then had this one made for a client’s twin daughters room as well in this amazing fabric:
And right now they are making some extra long x-benches for our new office in this great Kelly Wearstler for Lee Jofa abstract pattern fabric. CAN. NOT. WAIT.
More offerings from them we order up for clients– basic x-benches….
Their daybeds are to DIE for…
I am obsessed with using this exact one in Henry’s big boy room…
I love this simple upholstered coffee table— another safe option for wobbly toddlers!
They also make amazing grasscloth wrapped furniture. We’ve had a console like this made for a client… and now are having a desk made for another!
I also love these side tables/ nightstands.
And this dresser. Wrap something in grasscloth and chances are I will buy it.
A lot of people ask me where I get my custom drapes made– and while that is not a source I am willing to share (I have to keep SOME things for myself and my clients)- Lynne Chalk’s shop sells amazing designer fabric draperies and roman shades.
This Schumacher fabric is an all time favorite– as drapes, they slay me.
Some graphic patterned roman shades (left and right) with and without trim.
Some super dramatic panels in an amazing Mary McDonald print with wide patterned tape.
One of my other favorite fabrics from Quadrille as a roman shade.
Katie Ridder’s Beetlecat sure makes adorable drapes for a little boys room!
She also makes custom cushions (for built ins or the like) and pillows as well.
I have pillows made of the KW fabric in the office now and this Duralee/ John Robshaw is a fave too.
Need more custom pillow options? SparkModern is my go-to. A great selection of fabrics, good pricing and quality construction make them a winner. I also love the collections she puts together making pairing pillow patterns easy.
Hard to find fabrics like Lisa Fine are available and John Robshaw.
I love this graphic Quadrille for a boys room.
There are some outdoor pillow options (Peter Dunham- left and right- I have these in my sunroom) too. Make sure the fillers you buy are outdoor if you in fact plan on using them outside.
MotifPillows offers up a great mix of fabrics and price points too- and shows great pairings in their photos.
This blush is darling!
And I love this little floral bohemian.
These bright Tulu pillows are so happy!
Another pair I think would be darling in a big boy room (can you tell I have that on my mind??)
I hope that these sources help you take your space to the next level or fill a tricky niche that needs something custom!

Great ideas and style! I love the zebra cowhide ottoman :)
Hi! Thanks for sharing these great sources. I know you frequently ask for reader questions and topic of interests and seeing this photo of your living room makes me think that I’d love to hear more about good family friendly carpet. We’re about to pull the trigger on a custom wool sisal (which looks similar to what you have in your room) which I picked because I like the look of sisal but don’t like the stiff feel for young kids but I’m slightly nervous with a large dog and toddler. Can you go over some family friendly carpet options? Thanks so much!!!
These resources are amazing Erin! Thank you! Are there any Etsy sites you use for painted/lacquered furniture?
Thanks!
You are so generous with your sources. Thank you so much! Great post.
Love this! Valuable info. Quick question– I am usually not a huge fan of cutesy sayings on pillows but fell in love with one while shopping on vacation. I didn’t buy it and am now looking for a higher quality source than what you usually see out there. Any Etsy suggestions for custom embroidered pillows?
You are the bomb. What a generous post. Thank you so much.
I stumbled on your blog just a while ago and I’m super obsessed already! I love everything!

Erin,
Your previous post on LivenUP Designs convinced me order an oversized navy grasscloth console table from them. Thanks for sharing these great Etsy sources!
Deborah
I was thinking of ordering a navy grass cloth console table from them, but it was actually less expensive to order the Bungalow 5 navy grass cloth table online (that all those grass cloth pieces are knockoffs of)! I do like the fact that you can order custom sizes though.
Hi Erin – I love LivenUp…in fact, the light blue buffalo check daybed you featured is my design for a client’s nursery here in Los Angeles…and it was inspired by your design for your son’s nursery! Thanks for the inspiration!
Stacey
Hi Erin! Love your roundup. I’ve got to jump in and ask for your rug source…just a cut wool rug or any other details? I have a baby due soon and I need to replace the sisal throughout the house as it’s not soft at all. Merci :)
Also curious about the rug source!
Great post and thanks for sharing these resources. I just used Spark Modern for pillows, based on an earlier recommendation from your blog, and could not be happier with the work. Lots of great stuff on etsy!
Love your sofa and it’s very similar to what I need for my basement. Would you mind sharing where you found it? I haven’t been able to find it in the blog archives.
My sofa is the Malibu from Kravet, but it’s to the trade only. :(
thank you!
Those pillows are lovely I just wish they had the design on both sides. For pillows over $100 it seems like it would be a given. :(
The fabrics are so expensive though. A lot of these fabrics cost $100+ per yard! When I have them made for jobs double sided many are $300 plus per pillow.
Great post! Would you mind sharing where you got your lucite console table where you put your toy storage under?

Where are Henry’s PJs from? :)
They are a Roberta Rollerrabbit. Pricey but my favorites hands down.
Amazing post! Under the picture of Henry breaking into his toy chest (cute), you have a photo of a bench you had made with a beuatiful pink flower pattern. I believe this also comes in a blue colorway and I’ve been trying to figure out the designer for this fabric. Would you mind sharing? Thank you.
It’s by Lisa Fine.
Thank you!
Great sources!! Thanks so much.
Your ottoman looks like the perfect size, would you mind sharing the dimensions. One of the frustrations of decorating is trying to find exactly what you are looking for , thank you for being so generous with your sources..
22″ x 40″
Love this post! Also love Oliver’s death stare. “You’ve already taken enough away from me with the kid, mom. You’re not going to get me to move!”
Hi Erin,
Love your posts, and this one is filled with great info! Wondering if you can please share the source for the large artwork over your sofa, love!
Best,
Noreen
I painted it! :)
amazed. i had forgotten this. your talents know no end!!! go girl.
Hi Erin,
Long time follower/admirer. Any suggestions for an Etsy source who could do slipcovers, specifically for a chaise longue and 2 club chairs?
Respectfully,
Dana
Slipcovers are so tough to make right I’d suggest looking for a local workroom to make them as they typically need to take your furniture to make them fit properly.
that daybed- so amazing! and i love how the fabric you choose is baby proof, that is such a good idea.
and thanks for the outdoor pillow source- good ones are so hard to find! etsy is such a gem.
