Fashion Friday: England/ Ireland Wardrobe Plotting
It’s a ways away, but we are taking the kids on their first trip to Europe over Thanksgiving – London first for a few nights, and then Ireland for four nights. The impetus for this trip was to bring my Dad’s ashes to Ireland- his family is from there and he always wanted to go and never made the trip. It’s something that makes me really sad, and I feel like this is the best opportunity for closure I have. (BTW- any tips on bringing ashes on an international flight? I only have a tiny amount, but I do NOT want to have anything happen to it or have a meltdown at security!)
Of course, I am SO, SO excited for the wardrobe for this trip and I’ve already started gathering ideas (and some items). From boots and sweaters to plaid everything, Barbour coats, tweed and so many jackets! And you better believe the kids will be rocking some adorable things too- even Henry promised he’d dress “handsome” for this trip! Here is the start to my thinking… some of this is totally not practical (I’m looking at you, countryside painted skirt) but fun to think about.

It was a domestic flight, not international, but I brought my Dad’s ashes on a flight and the TSA security people were so kind. It seemed like they were used to handling that sort of thing. I did have the ashes in the container from the funeral home, and I brought the certificate of cremation with me, though they didn’t ask to see it. If you don’t have the original container, I would recommend bringing the certificate of cremation, or at least a copy. And it might be worth looking at TSA’s website, particularly given the international component. But again, I was really moved at how sensitive the TSA people were. I hope you have the same experience.
The collage is rendering a bit odd for me. I thought at first there was some creative layering happening in the outfit! Also, Barbour forever.
I’m sure you are on top of all this, but the QEII: Her Life in Style and Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art exhibits are both spectacular. It’s also really interesting to see them in a short span of time – the comparisons are fascinating. The exhibitions themselves are works of art! (Also, you will get a ton of use out of some Blundstones!) Have fun! Tell us all about it!!
