I have three absolutes when it comes to my wardrobe: 1) I wear jeans almost EVERY day 2) I buy mostly neutrals and 3) I LOVE me a leopard accent. Neutral pieces in classic cuts and lines are the best items to invest good money in. A good black dress, heels and leather pants are a must! I have had my black Louboutins resoled twice (with red rubber!) and wore my first pair of Helmut Lang leather pants so often I eventually wore a hold in them after five years, and then bought a new pair because the cost per wear on them was so low even though they are so expensive. I also wear my M.Flynn diamond studs and pearl studs almost every day too. Those are all items I do not regret spending a lot of money on. Yet I buy these Gap white tees below a few at a time because they are the BEST and I always spill coffee on myself and I do not need to spend $65 on a tee shirt! :) You gotta spend where it counts and save where it’s smart!
Here are six of my go-to neutral outfits. These are the looks I wear again and again and go-to when I don’t want to have to think too much about what I’m wearing on a certain day. As you can see it’s a lot of black, white, denim and camel tones- that way I can mix and match things too– like the tweed blazer would be great with leather pants and heels, for example.

When in doubt (or whenever you darn feel like it) add leopard shoes. I have maybe 4-5 pairs of leopard loafers/flats and wear them all the time because they always add that punch of pattern and style I want.

I love, love the camel coat featured in the title pic – can you share details on that one?
Any idea where the camel coat in the cover photo is from? Thanks. Great post!
Great tips! You used to recommend t-shirts from Tapered and I have a few, both long and short sleeve. Have they gone out of business? I love their shirts and was hoping to get more. thank you
Yes, she closed the business! :(
Erin, have you tried the JMcLaughlin Lexi jeans??
Another great post! It’s a good reminder to invest in classic pieces that you will wear a lot.
Would you have a link to a lace up, leopard oxford? I can’t wear heels anymore and my feet are too narrow for slip ones, or slip offs, as I call them.
Love! Have you found a replacement for the Tapered Collection tees? I found them thru your blog and they are so good. Gosh I loved those…
Same here. I bought one and I love it. Great quality. I need a “fancy” tee for layering.
HI Erin,
Quick FYI, several of the links don’t work for me. Ive tried on multiple devices.
Which ones? They are working for me?
Not sure why, both work for me fine :(
The links for the leather pants, and black flats don’t work for me in any browser or device.
Love this! I feel I can use this even though I am petite. Please do more posts on classic with a twist dressing!
My love affair with leopard began with a pair of Louboutins as well. I love that cobblers can resole in red!
Erin,
Are you getting a lot of wear out of the India Hicks Desert Beads necklace? I love it, but don’t know if I would wear it enough to justify the splurge. Also it would be great if there was a way to get us a promo code.
This is speaking my style language. Love it! Some great staples here. And I love a bit of red to punch it up, shoes, earrings, wrap, even a coat. Thanks Erin!
Hahahaha Erin, I love that you are doing animal print as a neutral because that’s what it is!!!
I am not able to link to the necklace. Kindly share the link or the source. Happy Friday!
Above the image it lists the link
Exactly what I pick most of the time. Jeans, sweaters in black, white or navy, camel booties, black or leopard slip ons and beige or black jackets. And add give me all the striped stuff. No Louboutins for me, no heels anymore.
Great post. Your picks are spot on!
Love, love, love these looks!
Great looks! Makes me want to purge about 75% of my closet and just stick with interchangeable classy neutrals like your selections. I was hoping M.Flynn was going to offer a Valentine’s Day discount on your gorgeous + diamond earrings so I could treat myself. Do you have any strings you could pull for me? Jk. I’ll hold out for Mother’s Day instead since I’ve decided I’m worth treating :)
