High vs. Low: A Modern Breakfast Nook
First of all, I wanted to thank you for all your incredible comments on yesterday’s post. As I expected and hoped, it helped me feel such a wave of support, hope and understanding during a very sad time. Yesterday’s sense of true community is the best thing to come out of writing this blog, so thank you for that reminder.
But I don’t plan to dwell long on the unfortunate here. Work has always been the best distraction for me when things go sideways in life. So I pulled together a fun little High/Low post today of a modern little breakfast nook– at VASTLY different price points but very similar looks.
The high version features a Lindsey Adelman chandelier, which was a budget buster, as you can see. The Pottery Barn version of the light is eerily similar and a tiny fraction of the cost. The rest of the items aren’t as jarring when it comes to price, but as you can see– if you look hard enough there are less expensive version of a lot of great looking items out there.

As a case in point, I wrongly attributed the High side to the wrong side for a good five minutes based on looks alone. Hilarious! Just goes to show you…
I am currently curbing my design spending and re-learning how to budget shop; I’m curious to anyone else out there do you feel there is a magic ratio of high to low within the same design to achieve a sneaky balance where everyone is completely fooled. . .
My sis had twins at 45 (procedure)…only 1 1/2 pounds & just under 2 pounds…they are strapping 16 year old honor students today…never give up!!!

I actually prefer the cheaper light.
This is a great inspiration not to give up on something you want, even if it seems initially unattainable. And maybe a metaphor for life sometimes as well??
The budget friendly version is awesome! i want those pieces in our new home!

Love a good high-low post! Helps remind me that even though I seem to have “expensive” taste, I can still get a custom look without sacrificing my mortgage ;)
