I’m not sure I’ve ever gotten more questions about a source than I have for my mudroom faux brick tile. Yes, it’s faux brick, porcelain tile, not thin brick veneer or full brick and mortar. First of all, we had a certain floor height we needed to work with in the adjoining kitchen, so using thicker tile/actual brick was not an option. Also, mortar and brick can get very gritty and I wanted something that was durable and easy to clean. These are EmilCeramica Kotto in Mattone color. Hard to find online, but you might be able to find at a local tile store. We’ve since repainted the bench in Ben Moore White Dove (after cutting out the arches below, which frees us up for larger baskets to store shoes and such).
The floor and bench before:
We’ve used this kind of product before in homes, and it’s always been a winner. The key to making it look more like real brick is to use 1/8 or 1/4″ spacers so the grout looks a bit more like mortar. I chose a medium grey grout so that there was definition but not BRIGHT contrast.
We used a greyer version in this spec house mudroom we did with Haven Builders- the spacing is tighter and with matching grout to make it more subtle:
We’re using the same tiles as in my mudroom in this mudroom renovation we’re doing now too…but with a more significant border layout.
Here’s the plan for this space – some cushions, a cafe curtain (guys, they are coming back) and lots of hooks and baskets. I am GIDDY over the organizational opportunities this house will afford me – and I’m not even a neat freak!

Coming next week – my plans for the family room with our amazing new built in/fireplace!!!!
Love it! Has a vaguely old-world/European sensibility.
Can you share the clear glass flushmount fixture in the Haven mudroom?
It looks amazing! Thanks for sharing sources, I’ve wanted this look on my back patio for years.
We used Brick Salvage (which you link to above) reclaimed thin brick tiles in our kitchen remodel (with a clear semigloss waterproof seal to keep them from feeling gritty) and we LOVE it. We also had excellent customer service from Brick Salvage—highly recommend!
I can totally see why you would remove the arches under the bench! It looks pretty at first sight, but isn’t very practical for storing all the mudroom things, is it? Gorgeous choices, but we all know they will be! I can’t wait to see the rest.
This the same “treatment” we used in our English Tudor…it “stood up” beautifully!! franki
Love all your choices- tile is terrific!
Very classic! I have to say unless you have used those particular PB baskets before, I would recommend something else. I ordered them for my boys’ closet shelves because they were a perfect fit, and they are the most flimsy baskets I have ever seen! The baskets you get free from a Harry & David apple order are sturdier. Also, what is the source for the cafe curtain rods? I really need some! Thank you.
Would you put the faux brick in a laundry room / mud room combo as pictured above or do you prefer a more formal laundry room look if the two spaces are combined? This has me totally rethinking my plan!
Please tell us more about your cafe curtains. I’ve always loved the look yet can’t find any I like. Will yours be custom? Could you share sizing and hardware tips. Thanks!
Me four!!
Adding a third vote. Congratulations! Thanks for always bringing us along for the ride.
Ditto this!
Double thumbs up. I’ve never seen faux brick tile!
Love this!
So pretty! Thanks for sharing! Did you heat any heat under the flooring in your mud room? I was we had put in floor heat in ours…
BEAUTIFUL !!! This is all so exciting ! I love popping on here and seeing your updates…thank you for the journey !!
