Our renovation is moving along nicely (I cannot wait- this room is going to change our lives!) Along with the new space, I’m changing some things in the living room since we won’t need a sectional anymore (tv going into the new room which THRILLS me because now you won’t see a TV above a fireplace right when you walk into the house- a total pet peeve). This will be more of a “formal living” space. Although I use that term loosely because how formal can you be with a toddler running the joint? While I’m still going to be careful of finishes and fabrics (and sharp edges) I want to make this space feel more grown up and “me”.
While pondering this change, I had decided I needed new side tables regardless. The modern burl cube tables I had were fab, but I needed something with storage now that I have an ottoman instead of two level coffee table. You know, a spot to keep remotes, magazines and books. So I worked with the fab peeps at The New Traditionalists (a favorite vendor with amazing traditional-with-an-edge style) to create the perfect new side tables that work great now and will be amazing in my newly decorated space too.
I chose the Side Table No. 7 for its clean lines, lower shelf and large drawer. I specified the exact size to fit my space. When it came to finish, I knew I wanted a slightly off white and after seeing their bevy of samples chose China White for the body. I toyed with grasscloth drawer fronts (you can send COM goods to apply to their pieces) but instead went with their Fine Linen painted finish in Edgecomb Gray with Brown. It looks a lot like grasscloth but is wipeable! Perfect for Henry’s sticky fingerprints that seem to be on everything these days! The interior of the drawer I had done in a sweet grey-blue (Benjamin Moore Smoke).
I also chose their brass tassel pull (LOVE). And the details are fabulous. Everything is designed to your specifications in New York and then made and finished in Connecticut.
So here it is in my room as it is now (with my awesome Agean Key velvet pillows in grey-green!)
But here is what I’m plotting! Since my family room is going to be lots of neutrals I decided to get a little more bold in here- with a light blue velvet sofa I’m having made by Bjork Studios in Atlanta (who is also making my dining banquette). The zebra ottoman will go into the family room and an oval marble table with replace (no sharp edges!) My big black buffet will be replaced by a antique style chest and my TV replaced by a mirror (yaaaaaay)! And while I cannot obviously afford a real Cy Twombly, I plan to put my studio art degree to work and create something in this vein for above the sofa. I’m going a little granny chic with the pillows. The rest of the items in the room will stay as is.
More to come on this (including the sale of all the stuff I’m getting rid of)- but before I sign off, here are few more amazing items I just adore from The New Traditionalists. I’m IN LOVE with this glass front cabinet. LOVE.
More cute accent pieces
This shows a cool shagreen material applied to the drawer fronts- one of many custom options.
A classic but hip dining table:
This console has some seriously cool detail in it’s hide leather strapping. So cool in a house out west or int he mountains.
Another beautiful case piece
They also do upholstery!
Lots more posts coming on all the changes in my house, both this room and the new addition (check insta for more frequent updates).
Thanks to The New Traditionalists for sponsoring this post.
So many great ideas! Can’t wait to see how it all will turn out (I’m sure it’s gonna be beautiful, but excited for photos!)
