This small room (technically a bedroom, since it has a closet) shares a bathroom with Emma’s room and this whole area of the house will eventually become a new master suite. But until then, and especially since Andrew took a new job that is fully remote, we needed a home office and this room was the perfect spot for it! I knew I wanted to paint it brown, to give off a rich, cozy vibe, and then Ballard Designs, a go-to source for us in our work, asked if I wanted to help show off their new Hutton office collection– and as soon as I saw the rattan woven panels I was ALL IN! It’s the perfect set for a home office because it’s so customizable in scale and size. You can utilize different components to make desks, filing cabinets, storage pieces, etc. We took some shots of the room to share and all the sources for each item is at the end of the post!
Beyond the brown walls (Benjamin Moore Fairview Taupe) I knew I wanted to use this floral Paolo Moschino from Kravet fabric as the palette – brown, blues and creams. So I had a custom pillow made in it and matched a solid velvet from Ballard for the desk chair. I do have window treatments coming, they just were delayed (because I couldn’t make up my mind, mostly).
Andrew questioned the chaise in this space, but now I catch him on his Zoom calls on it ALL. THE. TIME. It is SOOOOOO comfortable. I want time to sneak away in here and look at magazines or read a book! The intaglios look SO good against the deep brown wall too.
Above the desk I put a large linen pinboard and flanking that some acrylic floating shelves for some of my blue and white pottery.
We did a filing cabinet only base with a hutch above to conceal our printer and supplies. It’s SUCH a great piece to keep messes out of sight (and therefore, out of mind)
The texture of the panels makes it feel less “office-y” and more like a home.
Thank you Ballard for the amazing opportunity to work with these great items – shop them all below!

While it’s all pretty, the desk isn’t deep enough or really wide enough to be truly functional; nor does it have enough space underneath to move around your legs.
Love the ceiling light you have in your office. Just stayed in a house in MT w/ same one. Can you tell me where it’s from?
This looks gorgeous! Love that brown wall color (which I never thought I’d say!). I’d love to see your team do a post on inside doors and door hardware. I feel like there’s a rise in spec/new construction houses (ours included!) and sometimes the builders choose cheap doors and door knobs. I’d love to see some sources for upgrades that won’t break the bank! Love this blog, thank you!
Any chance you can start including your ceiling color(s) of choice? Ceilings tend to get neglected (except of course when they get star treatment with wallpaper). Thank you!
Show us which drapes you picked out. 😊
I wish my office looked so good. Lucky Andrew! I do love brown walls. We did just one wall chocolate brown in our tiny primary bedroom.
Where is your dress from?! Love the office too.
It looks beautiful and functional—I especially like the brown and blue palette. I redid my sunroom/office last year and used many Ballard pieces. I couldn’t be happier with the results!
Gorgeous!!! Can you share the source for the ceiling fixture. I love all things Erin Gates. Thank you so much for all of your reasonably priced options. You are amazing!
I think it’s Visual Comfort Lorford semi flush :)
room looks great you look great! tell us the deetz on that dress if you please :)
You nailed it….again! Love it all and absolutely need a source for that light fixture as it is perfection. Pretty please share when you get a moment : )

Very nice but the leaning mirror baffles me. Where this fad came from is a mystery. It will pass quickly.
Looks beautiful & very functional. Love the wall color.
Wow, gorgeous.
I love that dress on you.
I’m not a fan of brown as wall colour, but it does look rich and sophisticated.
