I love a good vintage rug! We use them constantly in our work for many reasons – because they add a sense of history and patina to a room, because they’re tough and hide myriad sins and spills, and also because they add a dose of tradition. I’ve used vintage rugs in every room in the house – from bathrooms to nurseries – but sourcing them can be intimidating. Real antique rugs can set you back tens of thousands of dollars for a large room size rug, and vintage ones sourced through the internet can be a crapshoot – what exactly will you find when you unroll that package that shipped all the way from Turkey!? I have a rug I need to unwrap right now in my foyer in fact! But we’ve had SUCH great luck on Etsy buying direct from overseas vendors so I’m here to encourage you to do your research (read reviews, message for more pictures in natural light, etc) but know that you can find such scores!
Here are some recent Etsy finds that all look amazing with great prices as well – click images for links!
❤️ these!! I have two, each bathroom & two, living area & tv room. Vacuum regularly, spot clean…they didn’ t get to be vintage w/o use. franki
These rugs are beautiful, but how do you keep a vintage rug clean in a bathroom or kitchen? I’ve been using indoor/outdoor rugs in the kitchen so I can literally hose it off outside. But, designers seem to always use vintage rugs in these high traffic areas.
