Jenna Lyons has been back in the news lately with her (surprising) turn on Real Housewives (I don’t watch that series, to be honest) and it made me think yesterday about her AMAZING Domino cover and spread in 2008. That brownstone was SO incredibly influential to me as a designer just starting out on my own – the black walls! That yellow couch! The mix of ornate antiques and super modern pieces! It blew my mind. I mean, Domino itself was such a massive inspiration for so many of us at that time (RIP). But what’s most amazing is the longevity of the design choices in that home. I saw some bedding the other day that looked almost identical to that bold coral bordered bedding on the cover and immediately had to recreate this room for modern day. And honestly, I wouldn’t change much about it. Now that’s good design.
This cover 4eva. It will always give me life, too.
Does anyone else remember Martha Stewart’s short lived magazine, Blueprint: Design Your Life (May 2006 – January 2008)? It was her take on that Domino aesthetic. I loved both! RIP Domino and Blueprint.
Yes! Loved Blueprint! When it folded I ordered all the issues (under 12 I think) and flip through them now and again. It had such potential being from the Martha Stewart world but for younger women.
Jenna’s home is possibly my fave of all time. Still–after all these years. That living room is still perfect, IMO.

Got a little excited thinking Domino was back.
Can this issue be accessed digitally? I would love to see the spread on her home!
The weekend this issue arrived in my mailbox, I was planning on painting the entry of my newly purchased condo a clean white. One look at this cover and the interiors feature sent me to find black paint instead. I too have every single one of the original Domino magazine run. Those issues were so inspiring to me at that time. Every single one of them. Can’t bear to recycle the stack. Happy to hear I’m not alone!
Unpopular opinion: I never liked Domino.
I miss Domino!
Yep!!!! franki
After domino stopped printing their magazine I still kept all of my back issues. Somehow they were lost during a move. At least I still have their first book, Great inspiration.
I have saved almost every one of my Dominos . . . which has little relevance, since all the shopping is extinct. I loved that magazine to death.
LOVE. I think the link to the chair is broken, could you repost? Thanks!
Nevermind! I was just hovering over the wrong part :)
The BEST! I still have all of the original Domino magazines in my basement- LOVE them so much! Every once in a while I debate recycling them, but can’t go through with it!
Have you seen her kitchen countertop? It’s to die for!!
