Anatomy of a Scandal: The Interiors
Over the weekend I finally indulged in a Netflix binge (it’s been a beat or two since I’ve done that) with Anatomy of a Scandal. Many of you had messaged me insisting I see it just for the interiors- and well, that was the best part! Next to Sienna Miller’s chic, minimalist wardrobe and impossibly tousled hair coming in a close second. I found the show to be predictable and trying too hard- but it was engrossing and fun to watch. And the HOUSE! I love a set that has multiple rooms wallpapered. In this show, practically every room (most being Cole & Sons.) It’s a study in good, classic English decorating with lots of millwork and mouldings, collections of art, a great kitchen, fireplaces and traditional details.
While The Cole & Sons Woods paper is a bit overplayed at this stage, this kitchen was fun. I loved the green cabinetry, the simple wood counters and all the windows. But mostly, I was OBSESSED with the iron and glass sliding doors closing it off from the sitting room/ family room.
This is a terribel shot but you can see the sliding door behind Sienna and her pizzas. It’s such a genius way to close off a kitchen without reducing visibility or feeling “shut in/out”.
There is a real lack of images available of the interiors- they have a pretty bird and branch type paper in their foyer and then in the office this very traditional damask style paper.
The dining area off the kitchen is one of my favorite spots- with this amazing corner couch/ banquette situation in a pattern and great wall moulding.
The family room/ library in between the kitchen and the formal living room- the dark painted millwork is SO good- and all the books! I love when clients have a ton of books and make them part of the decor.
No good shots of their bedroom- which is LOVELY and sumptuous. Especially the bathroom with the soaker tub flanked by full length drapes! I’ve done drapes behind a tub once and it looked great and want to do it in my new primary bath too!

Thank you Erin, I was hoping you’d weigh in on this. I love when a set is a story in itself. Those doors in the kitchen are so good. Habitually Chic did a great blog post on Sienna’s wardrobe.
Loved the interiors in the show, and so glad you pulled this post together – thank you. The patterned wallpaper in the office is by Lewis & Wood – an English company that makes beautiful wallpaper and fabrics. The pattern is Rococo.
Wish they provided better photos. I admit, I’ll rewatch a film just because I love the house.
The snake fabric on their upholstered headboard was such a subtle touch..
Her wardrobe was 💯!
There is lots to say about this show! First up – read an interview with Melanie Allen, the production designer – which explains the off centred pics you mention: ‘We selected things that would have been chosen by an actual interior designer,’ Melanie added, citing Rita Konig, Beata Heuman and Rose Uniacke as the type of high-end professionals the couple might have hired.
She also explained how she worked with set designers to centre scenes around furnitue.
One example, she notes, was a tree-patterned wallpaper in the kitchen as it ‘tells the story of Sophie adrift in the woods’.
Melanie also said that the image of the clouds on the wallpaper behind the couple’s sofa shows that a ‘winds are coming’.
‘We worked with the architecture to tell the story very subtly. There is also a photo of the family behind her on the sofa with nothing behind him,’ she explained.
Yes! This show was entertaining for easy post-work bingeing, but I mostly watched for the eye candy across the board. Sienna’s wardrobe is my aspiration, and that house is just right. I agree on the kitchen wallpaper, that was the only thing I looked at askance. Thank you for this, I’ve been wondering if someone was going to post about the sets/costumes :)
I was drooling over the interiors, just like you. I was entertained, just like you. As I always say with movies/tv shows/limited series that are adapted from books, the books are always better (with the exception of Silence of the Lambs….the movie was as good as the book). I was wondering if the living room asymmetrical art over the sofa drove you as crazy as it did me. I couldn’t stop staring at it and asking, “Is that a thing now?” And since I live in a part of the country that rarely wears a winter coat, is it a thing to keep your hair tucked into the back of your coat? Also drove me crazy :)

I saw the set designers say they placed the photos only behind her as symbolism. I believe it was at the end of the show where they gave the back story to the set designs.
I’m glad it wasn’t just me swooning over the interior design! Loved the entrance and stair case.
Kept with this series for the interiors and my crush on Rupert Friend. Cole & Sons wallpaper in the kitchen was a disappointment to me. Lots of other beautiful wallpaper elsewhere. The beige sofa with the matching glass lamps — boring and too old for that couple, IMHO. I really liked the library and his office (sconce shades matching the wallpaper – amazing) with the fireplace. Also the underside of the staircase had a beautiful detail.
